Chapter 1898: The End [2]

“5 years ago, Earth was subject to an event now known as the “World Awakening”. At that time, the world completely changed. Mana awakened in the world, gates began opening, and a holographic screen showed up in front of the eyes of every human that outlined their “status”.

Each individual was given a talent to start with, ranging from simple abilities like enhanced eyesight to insane fantasy stuff like pyrokinesis.

And within this myriad of abilities, Damien awakened a spatial affinity with the skill “short-distance teleportation”. At first, he was excited, thinking about intense battles and gaining great power, but the reality was quick to shoot him down. His ability only worked in the area 10 meters around himself, and his physical stats were insanely weak, leaving him tired after using his ability a couple of times.

Disillusioned by his weakness, Damien lived a quiet life doing anything he could to meet ends meet, until one day, everything changed. Damien was betrayed and thrown into a gate, left to fend for himself in a labyrinth of beasts.

Something snapped in him that day. He refused to stay weak and keep his head down any longer. When he emerged from the darkness, he found himself in a new world with no idea how to return to earth. However, he wasn’t the same kid he was when he first fell.”

Background

Damien is descended from the first Absolute, born as the first and sole inheritor of an extremely powerful affinity that should not exist in the Lower Universe.

Damien was extremely sick, breaking apart from the inside because his body couldn’t handle his own power, and at the same time, the Heavens tried to smite him as they were angered by his existence, causing natural disasters over the world on the day of his birth.

They were hindered by Damien’s father, a God hiding from his enemies in the Heavenly World, who used some of his Divinity to seal Damien’s affinity inside his soul, where it took the form of a reddish-black seed.

This event is what alerted his enemies to his presence, forcing him to leave for the Heavenly World in order to avoid putting his family at risk. Damien would then grow up believing his father had abandoned him and left his mother to fend for herself, which would have a significant impact on his development.

The damage he endured after his birth caused him to have a very weak body, a fact that his peers used as an excuse to viciously torment him for most of his childhood. Throughout this time his only friend was Elena Pierce, who developed affection for Damien due to his will in never submitting to or giving in to his tormenters.

After the world changed and awakened to mana, Damien awakened his spatial affinity along with the skill “short-distance teleportation”. At first, he was excited for the potential of his skill, but quickly came to the jarring realization that his pathetic physical stats made it impossible to use his ability effectively, draining his stamina after a few uses.

Disillusioned with his weakness, when Damien’s mother fell into a coma from what was perceived as an inability to handle mana, he routinely risked his life in dungeons to make ends meet and look after his mother until one day, everything changed; Damien was betrayed, thrown into a gate and left to fend for himself in a labyrinth of beasts.

And so, the saga of the greatest genius in the Universe began…

Prologue

‘Survive’

As he stood with blood, both his own and from various other beasts, covering his body, he only had one thought in his head.

‘I need to survive’

He strengthened his grip on his weapons and charged forwards. He appeared before the beast and slashed down, cutting a gash in its neck while the beast swung its paw at his head. He teleported behind the beast, and even while coughing up more blood, he kept stabbing and slashing.

‘Survive. Survive. Survive’

As the single word repeated in an endless loop, he jumped on the back of the beast, which was already starting to become sluggish from blood loss. He stabbed down once again; however, his weapon broke on contact.

‘Survive. Survive. Survive.’

Even as he began losing his bearings from blood loss, he could only hear one word. He stuck his hands into the wound on the beast’s neck and ripped it open, sinking his teeth into its raw flesh.

‘Survive. Survive. Survive.’

He clawed, bit, and ate, and with the last bit of reasoning he maintained, he used the broken weapon to stab into the gaping hole in the beast’s neck. The beast fell to the floor, lifeless.

As he began to lose consciousness, he saw a holographic screen appear before his eyes.

[1st class obtained!]

‘I…survived.’

As he drifted into unconsciousness, a smile began to form on his lips.
